Sharia Law For Dummies

(To comment, click on the title of the article)
Not that I am necessarily calling anyone dumb here.

Some people ask what the big deal is about Sharia law.

Well, the first thing I would tell you about Sharia law is it is insatiable. It wants to be the be all end all. FOR YOU TOO. Those that will Sharia law upon another country are forcing you into strict subservience to islam.

Sharia law is a set of strictly enforced rules governing EVERYTHING in your life.
Those in the west complain that the government is in their business too much, they ought to try living under Sharia law.

Sharia law comes from a combination of sources including the koran, the preachings of the prophet and the rulings of certain islamic scholars.

In Sharia law, your actions fall into five groups:
*Obligatory (Belief, worship, learning and conveying the religion to others)
*Recommended
*Permitted
*Disliked
*Forbidden

The laws of such actions are broken down into a further four categories:
* Acts of worship
* Commercial dealings
* Marriage and divorce
* Penal laws

One of the many problems of Sharia law is that there is no be all end all official fixed set of rules and there are many, many interpretations. However, generally the punishments given for breaking them are extreme.

So, in thinking about all of these things my conclusions are naturally drawn towards being anti-sharia in nature.

If a set of laws to govern the land are not concise nor detailed, having a universal/uniform quality to them, then it is not reasonable to believe that everyone will understand them. Especially when there are such differing interpretations of such laws and the punishments relatively varied. It would lead to confusion and fear.

(Let alone the seriously gender biased aspect of it. Men can just divorce a woman at will but a woman must give specific details in order to even be heard. Followed by several witnesses. A woman's testimony is equal to half a man's. Guardianship of children automatically goes to the man. Women typically face larger obstacles in court and more extreme punishments.)

Governments, many say have too much power and influence in our private lives as it is. Can you imagine if it had complete dominance over our every action? Can you imagine having morality police patrolling your neighbourhood watching you to ensure you are properly dressed and behaving in a manner they desire? The very idea that all your choices would be essentially removed from you by the law and government is far too frightening. Too many restrictions means no freedoms, obviously.

Can you imagine being locked up in jail, awaiting a death sentence for adultery when all you did was ride in a car with a man that wasn't your husband? Say goodbye to the office carpooling. Due process? Oh yeah, that will die immediately as their 'courts' are not recorded nor monitored. There is no disclosure. There are no appeals. Fairness is not a word in the Sharia dictionary.
